What is the essence of the N13B to Nigerian Farmers?
The N13B approved by the Federal Government as an intervention fund for pest control is given to farmers to ensure uninterrupted agricultural activities especially during this Covid-19. The money will help in the control of trans-boundary pests and also help in ensuring nutritional and national food security.
The Statement of Minister of Agriculture on the N13 Billion to Nigerian Farmers
According to the Minister of Agricultural and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono, he stated during the Flag – off of the 2020 dry season control of Transboundary (migratory) pest (Quelea birds, Locusts, and Grasshoppers) for 12 Frontline Northern States held at Birnin Kebbi International Airport, in Kebbi state over the weekend that; “the present global COVID – 19 pandemic and reports of desert locust outbreak in East Africa and the Middle East with the possibility of a spillover of the huge locust swarm into West Africa including Nigeria, necessitated the proactive measures, including control of all transboundary pest to ensure uninterrupted food supply in the country”.
Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono furthered said; “the present administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, is very determined to fight any menace that would truncate the tremendous success recorded so far especially in the Agricultural sector.”
“The choice of Kebbi State for the flag-off is deliberate, in view of the extensive agricultural activities in the state and the immense cooperation and collaboration of the state government in the implementation of agricultural interventions over the years,” he said.
The Honourable Minister of Agriculture for the cooperation of the Governor of Kebbi State to help in reducing the effects of the migratory pests.
The 12 frontline states that would be affected by this transboundary pests
Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe and Borno state.
How to partake in the N13B for pest control in Nigeria
The money may not be shared but all pest control materials will be purchased by the Minister of Agriculture and its agencies. Those materials bought would be shared among farmers to enable them effect it on their farms to control the spread of the migratory pests across their farms.
