NIN Update: New Steps on How to Replace Lost and Blocked SIM Cards

This update on new modalities for SIM Replacement was brought to us after the joint statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Ikechukwu Adinde; and Head, Corporate Communication, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Kayode Adegoke on Friday.

Excerpt from the meeting disclosed that subscribers must present their National Identification Numbers (NIN) for their SIM cards to be replaced.

Let’s hear as it was said; ‘SIM Replacement Policy For The Nigerian Telecommunications Industry’, read in part, “Based on recommendations of the Technical Committee, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has approved a SIM Replacement Policy for subscribers whose SIMs have been lost, stolen, misplaced or damaged subject to the following conditions:

  • The subscriber will be required to present a National Identification Number.
  • An effective verification of the National Identification Number will be subsequently carried out by NIMC
  • Lastly, the relevant Guidelines and Regulations of NCC concerning SIM Replacement will be fully adhered to.

This policy is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to ease the burden on subscribers and simplify the exercise. It is aimed at enabling telecommunications service users who need to replace their damaged, stolen or misplaced SIMs to re-establish access to telecom services.

This SIM Card is a very serious challenge and issue this time around. It is better for you to just adhere to this simple instruction before it becomes too late.

Link your SIM Cards with your NIN to avoid your SIM Card from being blocked.
