Premier League, EPL Weekend Action Reviews – It was an exciting weekend of explosive action in the Premier League which saw 39 goals scored across eight games at an average of 4.9 per game; this is the highest goals per game rate on a Saturday + Sunday of Premier League football (min. 5 games).

In what was the first game of the weekend, Arsenal managed to earn a narrow win over West Ham with substitute Eddie Nketiah netting an 85th minute winner. France forward Alexandre Lacazette was also on the scoresheet as he scored his 50th goal in an Arsenal shirt thus becoming the 4th Frenchman to achieve the feat.

Man United were not so lucky as they fell to an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace in what was their opening game of the season. Former player Wilfred Zaha was the one to inflict the damage as he netted twice to seal the win for the visitors.

It was a game marred with VAR controversy as Palace were awarded a penalty after a handball by Victor Lindelof in the box. Ayew stepped up to take the penalty but was saved by De Gea, VAR again called for the penalty to be retaken after De Gea was adjudged to be off his line and Zaha made no mistake in putting away the ball for Crystal Palace’s 2nd.

United had a consolation as new signing Van De Beek scored a debut goal.

A Dominic Calvert-Lewin hat-trick and goals from James Rodriguez and Moise Kean was enough for Everton to see off West Brom as they cruised to a deserved 5-2 victory.

Leeds United have marked their return to the top flight in an impressive fashion scoring 7 goals in 2 matches but this time around 4 goals was enough to beat a resilient Fulham. It would also mark Leeds first Premier League win since 2004.

Neal Maupay inspired Brighton to a 3-0 victory over Newcastle, scoring a brace and adding one assist.

Leicester City sit top of the table, after their 4-2 routing of  Burnley.

Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane’s stellar performance helped Tottenham   grab an away win against  Southampton. Having had his earlier goals ruled for offside, Kane provided four assists and contributed a goal with Son being the clear hero with four goals.

Chelsea‘s Stamford bridge suffered a huge blow as they lost at home to title holders Liverpool. The bridge came crumbling down after Christensen was sent off earlier in the first half and Jorginho missed a glorious chance to put the blues back in the game.

After last week’s round of matches, clubs would be looking to make improvements in various areas as the new season gets underway.
