Duties
- The incumbent is the sole administrative support position in the 24 USDH, 44 Locally Employed (LE) Staff Consular Section and directly supports the Consular Country Coordinator (CCC) who oversees both the Consular Section in Lagos and in Abuja.
- Incumbent is responsible for the full range of administrative functions for the whole section, including time and attendance, travel, and procurement.
- In addition, the incumbent is responsible for providing expert guidance and assistance to section and agency heads in both Lagos and Abuja as well as their high-level contacts who apply via the referral and Priority Appointment Request (PAR) programs.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:
- College or University Degree in Business Administration, Humanities, Languages Arts, or Communication is required.
Experience:
- Three (3) years work experience in general administrative or customer service work dealing with diplomatic missions, NGOs, government offices, or private sector companies is required.
Job Knowledge:
- Must be familiar with general office management procedures and be able to use consular and other computer applications.
Evaluations:
- This may be tested. Please specify your level of proficiency in the language listed.
Language:
- Fluency in speaking / reading / writing of English is required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to deal with customers in a professional and courteous manner and work under high pressure.
- Ability to draft correspondence and cables in Level IV English.
- Must be able to establish excellent relationship at various levels throughout the Mission, both in Lagos and with Abuja.
- Must be very proactive as s/he will be expected to work largely on own initiative and must work well under pressure and with a varied and constantly changing workload.
- Must have keyboard / typing skills and good working speed and accuracy and use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Must be comfortable interacting with high-level officials and VIPs and must be able to communicate clearly when dealing with a wide variety of people at all levels, as the employee will be required to speak with authority, negotiate, and directly influence people’s decisions.
