Job Title: Accountant
Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Purpose
- In this position, you will be responsible for managing all financial transactions, from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets.
- The accountant will provide accurate quantitative information on the financial position, liquidity and cash flows of the business, while ensuring compliance with all tax regulations.
key Roles
- Reconcile account balances and bank statements, maintain the general ledger and prepare month-end close procedures.
- Verify, allocate post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results.
- Analyse financial information and summarize financial status.
- Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.
- Preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual financial and management reports.
- Ensure monthly close including delivery of management accounts and board package.
- Provide technical support and advice on the Management accounts.
- Groundwork profitability reports and provide analytical support to key functions including the Sales team, Marketing team, and Service Centre.
- Arrangement profitability reports and provide analytical support to key functions including the Sales team, Marketing team, and Service Centre.
- Prepare a monthly payroll schedule with journals for postings and payment.
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Manage and supervise account assistants and bookkeepers.
- Participate in financial standards setting and forecast process.
- Provide input into the department’s goal-setting process.
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Management of corporate tax responsibilities and assist with tax audits and tax returns and other regulatory returns.
- Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
- Communicate with the Financial Controller to improve financial reporting procedures.
- Liaise with the Financial Controller to prepare company budget and ensure budgets are strictly complied with.
- Cooperate with the Financial Controller to develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field. Professional Qualifications such as ICAN, and ACCA is an added advantage.
Core Competencies:
- Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Hands-on experience with accounting software
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookup and pivot tables
- Experience with general ledger functions
- Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills.
